Humane Society of Sarasota County
Our Mission
As the area’s premier no-kill shelter, the Humane Society of Sarasota County engages the hearts, hands, and minds of the community to help animals.
Our Vision
A community where all animals are cared for and loved.
Our Values
We achieve our mission by providing compassionate care to our shelter pets, finding them permanent homes, and promoting responsible pet ownership in our community.
HSSC is dedicated to the health and welfare of each animal in our care. Every attempt is made to keep pets with their owners via our successful Feline and K-9 programs that provide behavior counseling and training. If surrender remains the only option, our medical and behavioral teams evaluate every pet taken into the care of HSSC. The shelter accepts all pets deemed adoptable within the capacity constraints of our shelter. Stray animals are referred to Sarasota County Animal Services.
Infrequently, HSSC must make the difficult decision to euthanize animals that have become too sick to be treated or too aggressive or behaviorally challenged to be suitable for adoption. In keeping with our mission, the Humane Society of Sarasota County is committed to a community approach to lowering euthanasia rates in our county. As a result, we work with several open admission shelters and actively rescue at-risk adoptable pets throughout the region.
