Alaska Humane Society
The Alaska Humane Society was founded in 1979, and established its first shelter in 1988. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that operates a no-kill shelter and sanctuary for "orphan" cats. We accept cats on the basis of need, not adoptability.
The Adopt-a-Cat shelter currently houses about 150 cats. Our cats are all spayed or neutered, vaccinated, tested for feline leukemia, and micro-chipped. They roam freely through the shelter, enjoying the space and the ramps that allow them to travel upstairs and downstairs. Some of them form lasting friendships with other cats, and over the years, there have been a number of hot romances seen in the shelter.
Shelter hours are Monday thru Friday, 7-9 pm, Saturday and Sunday, 3-6 pm.
