HSV Animal Shelter
The Police Department manages the HSV Animal Shelter, a certified shelter and past award winner from the Arkansas State Animal Control Association. Animal control officers are responsible for picking up animals, advising property owners on nuisance wildlife, relocating wildlife and providing care for the animals at the shelter.
When a dog or cat is brought to the shelter, the staff notes the area where the animal was picked up. Staff members also check animals for ID tags and microchips. Animal Welfare League volunteers work at the shelter’s adoption desk, promote public awareness, raise money, and provide funds for veterinarian bills and food.
All adopted animals are spayed or neutered before leaving the shelter.
