Walter Pierce Park
The Walter Pierce Dog Park (Adams Morgan Dog Park) was created in late 2004 as the city's first official/unofficial dog park. A group of neighborhood dog owners and interested citizens worked with the Department of Parks and Rec., the Executive Office of the Mayor and the Council of the District of Columbia to establish the dog park on the western edge of Walter Pierce Park, an area of the park that had previously been underused or often used for illegal activity. Part of the work including helping draft and lobby on behalf of the necessary legislation to allow for off-leash dog parks in the city.
