The Save Our Strays (S.O.S.) Animal Shelter was founded in 1981 to rescue stray and unwanted dogs and cats. Six years of hard work by dedicated volunteers and financial contributions from individuals and businesses allowed us to open our no-kill shelter in 1987. We are a private, 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that relies exclusively on contributions and fundraising.

S.O.S. focuses the majority of its efforts in three areas. First, and foremost, S.O.S. provides a safe home for unwanted dogs and cats. Secondly, it tries to place these animals in good homes. Finally, S.O.S. seeks to educate the public about dog and cat overpopulation and the benefits of adopting a companion pet from a shelter.

S.O.S. serves this community and is dedicated to maintaining a no-kill shelter. Our past and present renovation and expansion projects reflect our commitment to ending the tragedy of pet overpopulation. While we unfortunately have to turn many animals away due to our small facility and small staff, we have rescued, rehabilitated, spayed/neutered, and adopted out over 3,000 pets.
