Salem Play Areas For Canine Exercise – SPACE at Leslie’s Retreat Park
The Salem Dog Park is located at Leslie's Retreat Park on the North River, off Rt. 114/North Street.
Salem Play Area for Canine Exercise (SPACE) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that serves as an advisory board to the City of Salem, MA Park, Recreation and Community Services department on behalf of members of the Salem Dog Park located at Leslie's Retreat Park in Salem, MA. The park is funded by Pooch Pass sales, private and corporate donations, and SPACE fundraisers. SPACE works with the city to coordinate regular park maintenance, such as waste removal, weeding, lawn mowing and repairs. We also oversee long-term needs such as resurfacing and lighting.
Leslie’s Retreat Dog Park was opened in 2006 in the heart of historic Salem, Massachusetts. The park began as a spacious, fenced off area for all dogs. Through funds acquired with Pooch Pass purchases as well as multiple, generous donations, we were able to open a second, adjoining park for dogs weighing under 30 pounds.
Both parks offer shade, seating, running water, pick-up bags and dedicated pool areas.
Leslie’s Retreat Dog Park welcomes any dog from any city/town that is registered with a Pooch Pass.
The Pooch Pass program helps to ensure a safe environment for all dogs as proof of city/town license, rabies vaccination, and distemper vaccination is required. The $25 dollar annual fee also provides much needed funds for on-going improvement and beautification of the park. Pooch Passes can be purchased at the Salem Parks Department at 5 Broad Street during normal business hours.
