Daisy Knight Dog Park
Mark your calendars… we are excited to announce that the P. Terry and Barbara Knight Park will open on Saturday, September 30, 2017. The City of Troy will be hosting a grand opening event to officially open the Daisy Knight Dog Park. Event details will be available in August.
The City of Troy recently launched a fundraising effort to raise $400,000 for a new community park. The park will be centrally located at Livernois Road near Town Center Drive. It will provide fenced-in grounds for patrons and their dogs, act as a trailhead for Troy’s Trails and Pathways Plan, and allow for future additional recreational opportunities for all ages.
The park’s catalysts were two consecutive surveys conducted in support of the Parks and Recreation Plan, which indicated this initiative as the second highest priority for resident's in the City of Troy. Its foundation as a Dog Park has created excitement throughout the community!
The conceptual design of the park was a collaborative accomplishment. The City of Troy staff and volunteers looked at surrounding dog parks, held a public forum, and took to social media for ideas and input to continue Troy’s tradition of exemplary parks. The design allows for off-leash recreation without the fear of endangerment and an opportunity to be a central hub to interact with people of similar interest.
The City of Troy’s leadership has promised to fund 20% of the park’s development. The remaining costs must then be covered by tax deductible donations and sponsorships. The varying levels of donations consider all financial demographics with special consideration for the needs of the business community.
