Colorado Peke and Pom Rescue, Inc.
Colorado Peke and Pom Rescue, Inc. (CPPR) was formed in March of 2007 in Morrison, Colorado for the purpose of rescuing and rehoming Pekingese and Pomeranian dogs. At the time of its formation, there was no Pekingese or Pomeranian rescue in Colorado or surrounding states leaving Pekes and Poms found in shelters an uncertain and often poor fate. Its secondary goal is to educate and inform the public about the reality of puppy mills and importance of spaying and neutering. CPPR wants the public to "think" rescue first.
CPPR received its public charity status as a 501 (c)(3) in August of 2007. Through 2011, CPPR has taken in over 1,000 rescue dogs and adopted out 90% of these dogs. These little ones come in from shelters and owners throughout Colorado and surrounding states. Small breed dogs other than Pekes and Poms are also rescued when space is available.
CPPR does not leave the senior dog or sick dog behind when rescuing dogs in distress. It believes that no Peke or Pom should spend its last few years, months or days scared and lonely.
CPPR is an all volunteer organization. It meets its ongoing financial obligations through fundraising (grants and special events) and through third party donations. Many of its devoted volunteers work around the clock to keep up with rescue demands (saving one life at a time).
CPPR does not operate through a facility. It operates strictly through a volunteer foster home network. The size of our foster home network dictates how many lives we can save.
CPPR adopts dogs to Colorado adopters on a routine basis. Out of state adoptions are also possible within Colorado's bordering states and only when the rescue can get comfortable with the adopter through home visits and other means. CPPR does not ship dogs. On those few occasions when an adopter is unable to keep their dog, we always want the dog back and it becomes very difficult to retrieve the dog back adoptions occur farther than our surrounding states.
