We speculated about whether Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s eventual baby announcement would be met with less enthusiasm than the name (and a photo, please!) of their new dog about a week ago — and then they went and made a baby announcement!

Okay, so that WAS pretty buzzy news around the world, but while the newlywed and soon-to-be parents are cavorting around Australia, accepting gifts, meeting with fans and having a good ol’ time around Oz, dogs have been figuring prominently into the cross-country journey.

Both are longtime dog lovers, and of course, who can blame them?!

Here’s a fun moment captured on Twitter by commentator Emily Nash of Prince Harry enjoying the process of aiding a sheepdog as it overcomes quite the impressive obstacle at a community picnic in Victoria Park:

WATCH: Harry has a go at getting a dog to jump a fence at the community picnic in Victoria Park – with success! #RoyalAustraliaTour pic.twitter.com/fqJCVxMyQe

— Emily Nash (@emynash) October 17, 2018

The Duke and Duchess also greeted several other dogs while at the colorful event, and seemed to enjoy the company of each one.

The baby news, of course, still figured prominently, and though they accepted all kinds of gifts, this fuzzy animal was probably the best symbol of their time away from home!

Did you know…?

…that Bogart, who was Meghan Markle’s first dog, came into her life thanks in part to Ellen DeGeneres?

In an interview with Best Health, Markle shared that while visiting a shelter in Los Angeles, she spotted the dog who would become hers at the same time DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, were there.

“Now, I don’t know her, but Ellen goes ‘Is that your dog?’ And I said, ‘No,’ and she’s like, ‘You have to take that dog.’ And I said, ‘Well, I’m deciding.’ And she’s like, ‘Rescue the dog!’”

Later, as the “Finding Dory” star was heading out, she tapped on the glass wall of the room where Markle was still deciding and said, “Take the dog!”

And she did.

In the world of “nobody cares about this stuff” (except that everyone does, and so keeps reading it, and that’s why it’s all over the Internet, folks!), details have emerged about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new mystery dog.

We reported about the alleged new rescue back in August, but the information was scant at best.

Scant it certainly remains. The royal “IT” couple has been stoking the fires of mystery surrounding this new pooch since then and of course, people are just out of their mind to know. The new dog’s existence has been confirmed – of this we are certain – but the name? That’s still for them to know and us to find out.

That said, during a very busy day visiting Sussex with Prince Harry for the first time, Ms. Markle let slip that the dog’s gender was female with an offhand remark that people keep “getting her name wrong.”

Indeed these two are a dog-centric couple, now increasingly known for stopping to pet pooches while they’re out and about, meetings fans and subjects. In fact, Harry was recently over heard saying, “My name is Harry. I have two dogs with my lovely American wife,” referring to both their new addition and the beagle Meghan rescued in 2015, Guy.

Later, a stop at the Survivors’ Network, a Brighton-based group for survivors of sexual abuse, the royal couple was gifted with a unique and thoughtful drawing featuring the rescue pup. Though at first, they didn’t realize who was in the cartoon.

“We had a local artist do an intersectional feminist print of your dog,” meeting director Jay Breslaw said, presenting the framed photo to the pair.

Meghan and Harry visit the Survivors’ Network in Brighton #SussexesinSussex pic.twitter.com/0BNYnuTDgE

— Rebecca English (@RE_DailyMail) October 3, 2018

Immediate reaction said they’d though the dog depicted was the new one. There was laughter. “No one’s even seen our dog!”

Moments later, regal duo quickly realized the star of the art piece was Guy.

“How lovely!” Meghan said as she examined the drawing. “Look at the little freckles on his face!”

Markle’s former Instagram often showcased pictures of her rescue pups. She is a proponent of adoption.

Guy the beagle has gotten loads of attention since becoming the signature “rags to riches” story of the shelter-dog universe. His story – as much of it as we know, anyway – begins with our hero dog lost in the woods of Kentucky and ends with his moving to Kensington Palace, courtesy of the young actress who adopted him from a rescue in Canada, and then went on to be the newest member of the Royal Family.

Now, Guy has apparently “written” his story for the benefit of fans (and hopefully new generations of adopters-not-shoppers!) around the world. According to the Daily Mail, it is set for release in November.

Its full title – His Royal Dogness:The Rebarkable Stoory of Meghan Markle’s Rescue Dog, is reported to be officially endorsed by Markle’s new family, with help from co-authors Camille March and Emmy-winning writer and producer Mike Brumm. It was illustrated by artist Gerald Keller.

You can pre-order it on Amazon already, in fact!

Back in November of 2017, just after it was announced that Markle was engaged to Prince Harry, news broke that she’d taken Guy from her then-home in Toronto to London, settling into Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace. It was also much reported that Markle made a difficult decision, too, leaving her other rescue pup, Bogart, behind. The senior dog was reportedly too frail to make the trip.

Guy, as many now know, was found wandering and eventually made his way into the hands of A Dog’s Dream Rescue in Toronto. Markle saw him at an adoption event, fell in love, took him home and the rest is now a fairy-tale story if ever there was. From the Kentucky woods to paparazzi chasing him as he reportedly rode in a limo with the Queen herself.

In an interview earlier this year, the Duchess of Sussex revealed: “One [dog] is now staying with very close friends and my other, little Guy, he’s in the UK, he’s been here for a while.”

During her time filming the show “Suits” in Toronto, Markle regularly posted photos of her dogs on her former Instagram account.

We recently reported that last month, the royal couple reportedly welcomed a new dog called Oz to their family. Photos have yet to emerge of the new pup, but we’re betting that Guy’s tell-all book will be a big seller for the upcoming holiday shopping season.

The “old” guy, not the new. Here’s a pick of Markle with her adopted beagle, Guy. Apparently the Queen is a fan.

Sure, why not — when it comes to dogs, we’ll always join the Royals watch!

Outlets around the world are reporting that Prince Harry and his wife, the new Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, have adopted a new dog!

The pup, purportedly a Labrador of some sort, has been with the newlywed couple since early this summer. No name has been leaked, but apparently the dog has been seen accompanying the Prince and Duchess on short trips to their come in the Cotswolds and around the home castle of Kensington Palace, as well. Palace staffers have not issued comment, but knowing the Duchess’ love of dogs, it seems quite likely.

Ms. Markle is a long time fan. In fact, around wedding time we reported the story of her dog, Guy’s enchanted adoption after having a less-than-stellar start in life. Now, he’s a former shelter dog who lives, quite literally, in a palace! Guy famously rode along with the Queen earlier this year – a fact reported by dozens of outlets who love to watch the Royal Family.

We’re happy to watch them, too, of course, when there’s dog news to report!

Queen Elizabeth II is a notable dog lover, as well. She bid farewell to Willow not long ago; Willow was the last of her famous corgis, a 14th generation pup who descended from the Queen’s very first, a corgi named Susan. The Queen has said she would breed no more dogs; now getting on in age, she didn’t want to leave any beloved pet behind.

She did bless grandson Harry’s union early on, though, as her dogs seemed to like Markle straight away. Harry said during their first post-engagement interview that he has spent his life being barked at by the Queen’s dogs, yet Markle never brought forth even a growl.

We’re itching to get a first look at this new royal adoptee. We’ll share it once we do!
