Not everyone will sit down at their kitchen table one day and decide that devoting their life to saving and rehoming abandoned dogs is their raison d’être. But back in 1999 that’s exactly what Helen Lacroix believed she needed to do and Animatch, the adoption option, was born. I sat down with Helen at that kitchen table and asked her why.

Judie Amyot: What was your life like before you had this calling?
Helen Lacroix: I was a hotel housekeeper but always had a love of dogs and animals in general having grown up around them. Before I registered Animatch I volunteered at other rescues. There is such a need to help these animals that I knew it was the right thing to do. And I believe in doing things right or not doing them at all.
