——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

It takes a village to save a coonhound.

Lucky for Jake, the 7-year-old pupper found wandering the streets of Pennsylvania more than 2,000 miles from his Arizona home, such a village exists in the dog-loving rescue networks strung across the nation.

Jake, who had been missing since last year, was first happened-upon by Adam Herbaugh, who was walking his own two dogs at the time. Herbaugh took Jake to a local vet, where a microchip scan yielded the information to find his true home.

His owners were delighted; but chagrined. They couldn’t make the cross-country trip to get him. And so, the village stepped in to help.

Enter Renae Metz, president of A Darrah Bull Bully Rescue.

Metz told ABC News that the owners reached out via Facebook, asking for assistance in getting their dog home.

“My sister, Heather Shaw, is a transport coordinator [for A Darrah Bull Bully Rescue]. She used Facebook groups which consist of transport volunteers to coordinate Jake’s trip home,” Metz said.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

The group requested “qualified volunteers,” each of whom tackled different sections of the journey from Pennsylvania to Arizona. The three-day trip went from May 18 to 21, with Jake making lots of friends as he traveled — 20 volunteers, 30 stops and three kind folks who let Jake stay overnight along the way.

Eventually, Jake was reunited with his Dad, who took him the rest of the way home to his mom and brothers!
Amazing collaborative rescue tale!

————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Dedra Crawford thought her dog, Chi-Chi, died when she ran away three years ago, but last Friday got a phone call she’s calling nothing less than a miracle.

“I said, ‘I think we have your dog,’” said Dawn Pennington, an adoption coordinator at Kershaw County Humane Society, told CBS News.

Crawford adopted Chi-Chi while living in South Carolina. Six years later, in 2015, her dog disappeared just before a major flood hit the area. Crawford was devastated and searched high and low.

“I didn’t hear anything about her. I called shelters. I called sanitation people. I called everywhere,” Crawford said.

Years past. Crawford moved back to her native Queens with her family. Recently, she said, she’s been going through a bit of a crisis and then, Pennington’s call came. She says it has helped her get her mind off what’s been going on. She considers it a miracle.

————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

The 10-year-old shepherd mix seemed delighted to be back with her original family.

————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

What’s more, Pennington was willing to make the 12-hour, 600-mile trip to bring Chi-Chi back to her family.

“Oh my God. It feels like a blessing. I’m just so happy right now. And she’s back with us again and shes healthy looking,” Crawford said.

Another “miracle” microchip story, another happy reunion.

What’s next?

“Take her for a walk, and just have fun with her. Just love her for all the years she missed,” Crawford said.

When Nicole Grimes was 10 years old, she wanted a puppy.

And one day, her grandmother decided to surprise her.

“My mom picked me from school, and my Nana was there and sitting on her lap was this beautiful puppy with a pink bow in her hair!” Grimes told reporters Pittsburgh CBS affiliate KDKA.

Chloe was an adorable Pomeranian-poodle mix, friendly and sweet, but after four years, her parents made a difficult choice and decided to rehome the dog.

“My dad had gotten a job, and it was work from home. And when she was very young, she was like loud and everything.”

Reluctantly, they took Chloe to the Washington Area Humane Society, hoping she’d wind up in a good home.

Eight years later, Grimes noticed a Facebook post from one of her friends.

“She needed to re-home an elderly dog, and I look at the picture and think, hmmmm… that looks kind of familiar. And then I read the name Chloe and was like, that’s really odd.”

The dog, she said, clicked with her family immediately.

Her dad, Mark Bush, began to see it, too.

“Me and my daughter took her out to go to bathroom, and she started walking around in circles,” said Bush. “The original Chloe, we call her the O.C., used to do that.”

“And then she started doing the front paws… I said, I got to tell you the truth, I really think that’s her,” he said.

But they needed to know for sure, so they took Chloe to have a microchip in her scanned.

“And it was an exact match,” said Grimes with a wide smile. “This is my dog from when I was a little girl. It’s just the craziest thing.”

Given the unlikeliness of the two ever being reunited, Grimes thinks it’s the work of the woman who got her the dog in the first place.

“We think it’s a sign from my Nana. She passed three years ago, and we really think this is a sign from her,” she said.

Grimes believes Chloe had two different owners in the eight years that they were apart.

When a husky wandered into her Kansas City, MO, backyard, Jamie Bergman was quick to get attached. The 3-year-old pup showed up on Christmas Day.

“I get a call from my boyfriend, and he says, ‘Funny story,’” Bergman told FOX 4 KC. “He had let our younger husky, Aspen, out to go to the bathroom in the backyard, and he said when he went to get her back inside that there was another husky in our yard. He said he brought it in, and he was skinny and so wet that the whole back half of him was covered in ice.”

They bathed and fed the pup, then took him to be scanned for a microchip — and boy, was he a long way from home!

“I finally get a hold of the owners, and they can’t believe it,” Bergman said of Koda’s family in New Mexico. “They are really confused, first of all, about who I am, how I have their number, and how I have their dog. We get to talking, and I find out that they are from New Mexico and that’s where he is from and that he has been missing for almost a year.”

How Koda managed to make it from New Mexico to Missouri is still a mystery to Bergman, but it’s one she believes has to do more with fate than luck.

“The fact that we had a husky, Skylar, pass away the first of December, it makes me think, ‘Did she have something to do with it? Did she send this dog to us because he needed help?’ How did he jump the fence in my yard? How? It’s so crazy,” she said.

Koda will be back in New Mexico to reunite with his family soon.

“He came at the right time, and it all just kind of worked out because he’s really helping us heal from the loss of our other dog,” Bergman said. “It`s nice to be able to have him here throughout the holidays when it’s always rough. And we have this other dog that we can focus on and love, and he`s giving us back a little bit also. It’s really cool.”
