Tow truck driver, Martin Hall, Jr. and his family have been receiving lots of love and thanks from the community after helping an elderly man who had fallen and been injured.

But it’s not just Hall who helped the man out. One of his dogs did the job of “flagging” Hall down.

Hall had been heading out to a call in Mariposa, CA, near the town of Coulterville, when he came across the black dog sitting in the middle of the dirt road. A retractable leash was attached to the pup’s collar. Hall caught the whole encounter on video using his phone.

“I found this dog with a leash on it he won’t come to me,” said Hall.

Perplexed, but seemingly aware that something wasn’t quite right, the tow truck driver tried to feed the dog his peanut butter and jelly
sandwich and share his water but he had no luck.

“That sucks this dog doesn’t come to me, dogs likes me sometimes,” said Hall.

Hall was concerned. The dog was out in the middle of nowhere. But he noticed some clues littered in the nearby brush.

“There was a flashlight on the roadway and a trail here,” said Hall.

As Hall continued to investigate, the dog still wasn’t warming up. It lay back down in the middle of the road and wouldn’t budge an inch. It was about this time that Hall heard yelling coming from the nearby woods. He yelled back, then went to check things out.

A short walk from the road and he discovered an elderly man laying in the dirt. Another dog was by his side.

“What’s your dogs name?” Hall asked.

“Chico,” said the man.

Chico had been protecting his owner since the fall. Meanwhile, the other pup had wandered onto the roadway, seemingly waiting for a passerby who might be able to help. The dogs’ owner had fallen down an embankment and broken a hip. He had been lying in the brush for 10 hours before Hall happened upon them all. It was pure luck, too, as Hall had only happened down that particular road by accident.

Help was called. The man was rescued. And while Hall was certainly instrumental in making sure that happened, it was the loyalty of a dog who refused to budge that prompted the action.

Can a dog have a dog? In the city of Manila in the Phillippines, it would seem that not only can a dog have a dog. It can have a seeing-eye dog! And this sweet pair is taking social media by storm, according to Fox 8 Cleveland.

According to their Facebook page, Ginger and Kimchi have been “ambassaDOGS” for three years now.

Kimchi, you see, is a blind spaniel mix who’s believed to be between 9 and 12 years old, and her wonderful friend, Ginger, an 11-year-old golden retriever, serves as her companion and guide.

According to the page, the couple who owns the dogs had planned to adopt Kimchi from CARA Welfare Phillippines several years ago and brought Ginger along to meet this potential sibling. In the past, Ginger had been aggressive with other pups, so they weren’t sure it was going to work out, but the pair hit it off right away.

“We immediately took them out for a walk that turned out to be very pleasant, Ginger even licked him when we stopped for a breather,” the couple said online, “Seems like the dog, whom we later named Kimchi, chose us, and Ginger chose him.”

Kimchi was rescued after being found abandoned. He suffered from many health issues and was almost completely blind.

He lost his sight for good three years ago, but Ginger has been his seeing-eye dog ever since. The couple said that Ginger acquired this role without any formal training and that “Kimchi doesn’t mind being led around, for the most part anyway. They are always paired when we go out, a guide dog, for a blind dog!”

So inspired were they by their dogs’ devotion, and grateful to the rescue that brought the family together, not only do they volunteer for CARA, they have more than 22 companion animals!

In addition to serving as “ambassaDOGS,” both Ginger and Kimchi provide service for the community as well. The two dogs are often invited to provided emotional support to hospital patients, students, and company employees.

Arizona’s Family

Man’s (and in this case, woman’s) best friend has been a fitting moniker for dogs since the inter-species partnership began and Todd, a golden retriever in Arizona, is yet another piece of evidence for the case.

Todd and his owner, Paula Godwin, were out for a hike when Todd spotted a rattlesnake on the trail and quickly put himself in harm’s way.

Godwin wrote on Facebook that he jumped between her and the agitated animal and took a nasty bite on the face for his trouble.

She rushed him to the vet, getting him there in less than 10 minutes. Doctors began treating him immediately according to KPHO-TV.

“This is what a hero looks like,” Godwin wrote alongside a photo of her pup, whose swollen face bore the mark of the rattler.

Despite the heartbreaking photos, Todd is recovering, Godwin posted online.

What a sweet pup!

When flames began to overtake the Stockton, CA, apartment building where she lives, Sasha — an 8-month old pit bull — flew into action. Her owner, Nana Chaichanhda, was inside with her infant daughter.

Sasha alerted Chaichanhda about the danger even before she was aware of it.

“I was awaken by my pit bull pup Sasha banging and crying at my backyard door. Little did I know, Sasha would become my hero,”Chaichanhda wrote on a GoFundMe page after losing her home in the fire.

The four-plex partially destroyed, but Sasha’s family made it out safe due to her swift action.

“My neighbors home was totally destroyed, and the fire was quickly spreading to my unit,” the mother wrote. “[Sasha] was trying to warn us of the fire. I got out of bed to see what was going on. At that moment I opened the back door and Sasha ran into our home, straight into our bedroom.”

Confused at first, Chaichanhda then realized her cousin’s apartment — right next door — was burning.

“I ran into the bedroom, where Sasha was already dragging my 7-month-old baby off the bed by her diaper,” she wrote. “Thanks to Sasha we were able to get out safe and call 911.”

Firefighters arrived, quashing the flames, but two apartments — Chaichanhda’s and her cousin’s — were destroyed. They are staying with relatives in one of the remaining units, WTVR-TV reported.

Firefighters arrived on the scene and were able to save most of the building. Chaichanhda and her cousin’s apartment were destroyed in the blaze. The family is now staying with relatives who live in one of the surviving apartments, CBS affiliate WTVR-TV reports.

Chaichanhda believes Sasha is what ultimately kept her and her daughter safe. She hopes their story helps change the negative perception of pit bulls.

“I owe her everything. If it wasn’t for her, I would have still been in bed and things could have taken a worse turn,” she said.

Being deaf and partially blind didn’t keep Max, a 17-year-old blue heeler, from keeping a lost child safe after she’d gone missing in the wilds of Australia, eventually aiding in her rescue, as well.

Police have honored him for his role in the positive outcome.

Little Aurora went missing on Friday, vanishing into the wilderness of rural Queensland. An emergency crew was out looking soon after, but couldn’t find her location. She remained missing throughout the rainy night.

Max, however, kept her good company — and perhaps warm — and helped lead Aurora’s grandmother, Leisa, who had heard the child’s cries, to her location.

Max, described as half-blind, was hailed a hero by police. He was proclaimed an honorary police dog on their Facebook and Twitter feeds.

Aurora was in good shape, suffering only a few scratches during her ordeal, and was in high spirits, as well.

Emergency Services Coordinator Ian Phipps told reporters for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that Aurora was discovered more than a mile from home.

“The area around the house is quite mountainous and is very inhospitable terrain to go walking in, so she’d traveled quite a distance with her dog that was quite loyal to her.”

GOOD BOY, MAX!!!!

————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–

Pete was a 14-year-old senior, an English setter and former hunting dog who had only been with Stephen Parisi and his family (and four other dog siblings) for 18 months. They were good ones, spent running in the woods in a happy-go-lucky manner.

And that’s how his family wants to remember him.

Pete was hiking with Parisi and the other dogs at Monksville Reservoir in New Jersey this past weekend when they came upon a black bear.

It is believed the bear was sheltering and, because of that and the recent rain, was unable to smell them coming and so they surprised it.

Brave Pete held the bear off while Parisi made off with the other dogs, securing them in a safe spot, then returning to shoo the bear.

Parisi’s wife, Cathi Henn, told the BBC: “The bear’s only exit was a 180-degree turn and the bear was never going to turn its back on something that it was scared of, so it came for Stephen and the dogs.”

Sadly, Pete’s injuries were grave, among them a broken back. Parisi, unable to carry his friend, wrapped him in a waterproof coat and dragged him along the ground by its hood for more than a mile before reaching the car. Cathi and a family friend helped take him to Oradell Animal Hospital.

Upon thorough examination, which revealed injuries that would have left him unable to walk again, Parisi and Henn made the decision to let Pete go peacefully and without pain.

“I want to remember him as the happy-go-lucky dog he was. I want to remember him running through the woods, always with his tail wagging,” Henn said.

Since posting the story on Instagram, Pete has gone viral, with people from all over the world responding and paying tribute. It has been a surprise to the couple, who took Pete in as a foster 18 months ago. He was originally from Ohio, given up by his owner when he became too old to hunt.

“Thanks to everyone who have offered their condolences, I didn’t expect anything like this,” said Henn. “We were just upset about our dog. We are just devastated. All this love for Pete is great but we’d happily trade it for just one more day with him.”

Henn and Parisi said that Pete loved to be the center of attention and would have enjoyed all the fuss.

“Older dogs can give so much love, Pete turned out to be our hero too.”
