The Barkyard
Buffalo’s first and only off‑leash area
In August 2007, The Barkyard was opened on a temporary site in LaSalle Park. Since then, The Barkyard has enjoyed tremendous success—attracting thousands of visitors and earning overwhelming public support. Thanks to this success, the City of Buffalo committed an area of LaSalle Park for the permanent home of The Barkyard, as well as pledging $25,000 for (future) parking lot renovations. To date, all funding used for building The Barkyard (fencing, asphalt, signage, etc.) has come from private donations and fundraising events.
Now open!
The Barkyard opened the gates to its permanent home on June 25, 2009. Visitors can enjoy a picturesque view of Buffalo’s waterfront and skyline, while dogs can run free within over 70,000 square feet of fully fenced off-leash area. Small dogs can enjoy their own separate area—all day, every day! The Barkyard is handicap-accessible, and features a double-gated sally port, lighting, running water, as well as seating and shelter.
The Barkyard’s Hours
The Barkyard is open every day from dawn to dusk (the same hours as LaSalle Park).
